The design and materials for Centennial Plaza take inspiration from Sparwood’s rich rail and coal mining history, local natural elements, and spectacular mountain setting.

Centennial Plaza’s redesign is a significant investment in the heart of downtown Sparwood that aims to activate a community gathering space, a vibrant public realm, prioritize pedestrians, draw visitors, and provide economic stimulus.

The plaza and vehicular allowable surface is entirely accessible with a single level paved surface. Instead of curbs, flexible seating, lighting, and planters subtly guiding intended use. The plaza is grounded by an overhead structure and central fire place with planters that create cozy nooks for passive use, while providing opportunity to host larger programs. The design and materials take inspiration from Sparwood’s rich rail and coal mining history, local natural elements, and spectacular mountain setting.
